Keeping it Simple and Getting it Right: Identifying needs and supporting learners

This brand new webinar series comprehensively explores LLN testing, the use of the ACSF to support low literacy learners and the how to change teaching styles to accommodate different learning levels. It provides an extensive introduction to: Pre-testing of foundation skills; The mapping of learning content to the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF); and The pedagogy for the design and delivery of learning and assessment tasks that develop and demonstrate the core Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN skills needed for successful completion of VET  and engagement within the workplace).

Session 1: Language, Literacy and Numeracy Testing - Keeping it Simple

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) testing underpins all vocational education and training delivery and assessment, and yet is often a badly implemented aspect of training provision.

This first session in a 3 part series will highlight how the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) provides a contemporary structure for the identification of LLN needs and how it can be used as a framework for contextualising learning and assessment materials to ensure underpinning competencies are demonstrated.

Session 2: Using the ACSF to Support Low Literacy Learners

This second webinar in the series will focus on how to ensure learners with low language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) are supported through the use of the ACSF (Australian Core Skills Framework) tasks to develop and extend their engagement with their learning content.

• Creating simple bench-marked LLN tasks
• Performance attributes and domains
• ACSF level descriptors
• Building tasks from the ACSF out

Session 3: Changing Your Teaching Style to Accommodate Different Learning Levels

This third webinar in the series highlights classroom interaction patterns, delivery methodology, activities and teaching resources that can impact on the way students learn and practice foundation skills.

Key outcomes:

• How to manage multi-level classrooms
• How to create scaffolded learning tasks
• Group work and peer-to-peer instructions
